Life after anaesthesia

Justin Richards

Life After Anaesthesia: is a reflection on career transition, identity, and the transferability of clinical expertise beyond medicine. Drawing on experience spanning general practice, anaesthesia, intensive care, pharmaceutical medicine, and board-level leadership, I want to explore what happens when a medical career approaches its later stages and the questions that inevitably surface: Who am I without the pager? Where do I add the most value now? And how can deeply embedded clinical skills be re-authored for new contexts?

When appropriately translated, medical experience is not a deviation from conventional leadership pathways but a powerful source of credibility, judgement, and purpose.
