There are still a substantial number of patients that present for major surgery or with infective illnesses for whom the reason for a poor outcome cannot be determined.

In this talk we look in a bit more depth at what we really know about their pre-morbid state and also to what degree the patient themselves research or take responsibility for ensuring their chances of a decent result are optimised.
