Dorset Comb Block / Advanced RA for #'d hips

John Ward

Dr John Ward is a semi-retired anaesthetist, currently working in Queensland Australia. He has over 30 years NHS experience which has included regular trauma lists especially for high risk cases. In 2024, he “retired” & went to work in Queensland. Previously he was the Honorary Treasurer for the Association of Anaesthetists and sat on their Board of Trustees for 4 years.

He is going to present details of what he nicknamed the “Dorset Combo Block” which is especially suitable for high risk patients undergoing fractured neck of femur or femoral surgery.

This talk will revise some useful block anatomy (including ultrasound) incorporating three types of block.

Regional analgesia has become a core skill for many anaesthetists and any Perls of Wisdom from participants are welcomed.

PS: Discussion on complications of PNB and how to avoid them are also welcomed.
