Increasingly sophisticated equipment and complex, specialised software allow for increasingly detailed examination and detection of structure and function. The pace of advancement seems inexorable.

This applies not only to the field of preoperative ultrasound imaging but also to that of amateur astrophotography.

In both disciplines the result is fantastic images that reveal ever more detail. This lecture is an introduction to night-sky images that can be acquired by an amateur astronomer.
